Research and discovery

Nestled in the rich historical context of the structure, Palazzina Liberty’s rich tapestry of musical events is now seamlessly woven into the digital realm. As a designer collaborating on a project basis with the Milan Municipality, together with front-end developer Daniele Giliberto, we embarked on a journey of research and discovery.

To address the challenge of transcending the conventional and creating a digital platform that not only showcases a diverse array of musical events but does so with modern aesthetics and an engaging design, understanding the soul of chamber music and discerning the nuances of the audience’s taste guided our strategic direction. The goal was to craft an online space that not only serves its informative purpose but elevates the appreciation of chamber music.

Conceptualization and design

We delved into the conceptualization phase, envisioning a modern website that serves as more than a mere events calendar. It needed to be an immersive experience, embodying the spirit of Palazzina Liberty and its commitment to cultural enrichment. The historical significance of the building, constructed between 1908-1911 by architect Alberto Migliorini, stood as a guiding influence throughout the design process. The building, with its large windows and elegant floral-themed decorative elements in ceramic, is a masterpiece of the Liberty style. In the ’90s, it underwent significant restoration, repurposing the structure for recreational and cultural initiatives.

Development

In this journey, I took the lead in creating a visual branding language that aligned seamlessly with the architecture’s historical charm. The interface design, the development of a cohesive design system, and the introduction of a color hierarchy that identified different types of musical events added layers of clarity and depth to the user experience. This not only made navigation on the site more intuitive but also allowed users to identify the type of event quickly according to their tastes and preferences.

We developed a custom WordPress site featuring over 140 musical events, embodying Palazzina Liberty’s role as a cultural hub. Balancing modern aesthetics with the venue’s historical charm, our design enhances the appreciation of chamber music. We seamlessly integrated cultural richness with digital sophistication, culminating in a captivating platform that harmonizes musical experiences in the digital age.
