Problem statement
The challenge was to create an app that not only wakes users up but also sets a positive tone for their entire day. As a team at Stereomood, we recognized the need for top-tier mobile development expertise to realize our vision. We ensured that the app seamlessly integrated with our extensive music database through a smooth API connection, allowing for a flawless user experience. Additionally, we designed the app to function effectively even on the go, with the capability to play music offline in case of no connection, ensuring that users could enjoy their personalized morning mood wherever they were.
Research and discovery
Understanding the profound impact of music on emotions, we delved into research to identify the key moods that resonate with morning routines. The goal was to seamlessly integrate Stereomood’s curated playlists into an app that enhances the waking experience.
Conceptualization
In the conceptualization phase, we envisioned an app that would allow users to fully customize their morning wake-up experience. MoodO’Clock empowers users to select their desired morning mood, paired with matching tunes and evocative visuals. Each mood was accompanied by an iconic picture, carefully chosen in collaboration with visual talents from around the world, enhancing the emotional depth of the experience. Adding a unique musical touch, DJ Jolly Mare—who was collaborating with Stereomood as a music editor—created a special track called “Lingerie” for the mood “Italo,” perfect for those mornings when users wanted to wake up to the vibrant vibes of Italian disco. The app’s social sharing feature on Facebook added a communal layer, allowing friends to connect over and understand each other’s morning vibes.
Design solution
As a product designer, I played a pivotal role in crafting the user interface and experience of MoodO’Clock. The design emphasizes simplicity to ensure a seamless and enjoyable user interaction. It was essential for the UI to be consistent with the Stereomood interface, reflecting our established branding and design principles. This consistency reinforced our brand identity and provided a familiar, intuitive experience for users. Integrating Stereomood’s music catalog required a thoughtful approach to balance functionality and aesthetics. Additionally, I focused on creating an engaging visual experience aligned with our emotional design goals, ensuring every interaction was both visually appealing and emotionally resonant.
Outcome and reflection
MoodO’Clock stands as a testament to the fusion of technology and emotion. As a product designer, I am proud to have contributed to an app that transforms waking up into a personalized, musical experience. The positive feedback from users, as evident in reviews, reflected the app’s success in creating special mornings for individuals.
